South Florida Engagement Photo Locations

Thirty places I keep coming back to, with the light I would shoot each one in and the permit it takes.

Your engagement session is the rehearsal for your wedding day. Low stakes, just the two of you, and the first time being photographed starts to feel normal. The location does more of the work than people expect: it sets the mood, it dictates the light, and it decides whether you spend the hour relaxed or dodging a crowd.

I am Widgy Normil, a South Florida engagement photographer and wedding photographer working across Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach. Nine-plus years and 200-plus couples in, these are the spots I know by heart. For each one you will find what it actually looks like through a lens, the window I would book it in, and the permit or reservation it takes, because nothing derails a session faster than showing up somewhere you were not cleared to shoot.

Book your wedding with me and your engagement session is complimentary. So pick the one that sounds like the two of you, and let us build the rest around it.

How a session actually runs

One hour, one location

Sessions run one, two or three hours, which is one, two or three locations. Most couples take two hours so nothing feels rushed and the gallery has real range.

Built around the light

I plan start times around golden hour wherever the location allows it. Where a venue sets its own photo hours, I tell you which slot photographs best.

Permits are the couple’s

Any permit, access fee or paid parking is the couple’s responsibility and goes directly to the location. I tell you exactly what to reserve and when.

Not sure yet? Say so

Tell me the feeling you are after, whether that is lush, coastal, editorial or old-world, and I will shortlist the spots that fit, plus a rain plan.

Where most of my sessions happen. Bay, stone, murals and gardens, often within fifteen minutes of each other. Getting married here too? Meet your South Florida wedding photographer.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, a South Florida engagement photo location

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

Coconut Grove · Historic & Garden

If you want old-world, nothing else in Miami comes close. Carved stone staircases, fountains, clipped Italian hedges, and Biscayne Bay sitting right behind all of it. It photographs like a European estate and it is ten minutes from downtown.

Light
An early start before the gardens fill, or mid-afternoon when the stone goes warm.
Access
A portrait photography permit is required and reserved online ahead of time. Weekend slots go quickly.

South Pointe Park, a South Florida engagement photo location

South Pointe Park

Miami Beach · Beach & Water

The southern tip of Miami Beach: palm-lined walkways, a long pier, open ocean, and cruise ships sliding through Government Cut behind you. Airy, modern, unmistakably Miami, and easy to walk in heels.

Light
Early morning for a quiet park, or late afternoon for warm, low light off the water.
Access
Professional photography in City of Miami Beach parks needs a film and print permit, applied for several business days ahead.

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, a South Florida engagement photo location

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

Coral Gables · Garden

Eighty-odd acres of palms, lakes, vine-covered pergolas and shaded paths. The canopy diffuses everything, so you get soft light for hours instead of a narrow window. It is the easiest garden in the county to shoot well.

Light
Late morning or afternoon both work. The tree cover keeps it flattering either way.
Access
A photography permit is required and must be scheduled in advance. They do not take walk-ins.

Key Biscayne: Bill Baggs and Crandon, a South Florida engagement photo location

Key Biscayne: Bill Baggs & Crandon

Key Biscayne · Beach & Historic

Island light minutes from the city. Bill Baggs gives you the Cape Florida Lighthouse, sea-grape tunnels and quiet sand. Crandon gives you wide open beach and palms. Together they are the most “we left the country” look you can get without leaving the county.

Light
Morning on the sand, or late afternoon near the lighthouse as it catches the last of the sun.
Access
Three different offices depending on where we stand. Bill Baggs is a Florida State Park, Crandon goes through Miami-Dade’s film office, and the Village has its own permit for village property. Dunes are always off-limits.

The Ancient Spanish Monastery, a South Florida engagement photo location

The Ancient Spanish Monastery

North Miami Beach · Historic

Built in Spain in the 1100s, taken apart, shipped over and rebuilt stone by stone. The cloisters and arcades give you long shaded corridors and genuinely ancient texture. It is the most timeless backdrop in South Florida, and it does not look like Florida at all.

Light
Mid-morning or early afternoon. The cloister arches do the shaping for you. Opening hours vary by day.
Access
Portrait sessions need a paid reservation booked by phone in advance. It is an active church, so we work around services and keep it respectful.

Deering Estate, a South Florida engagement photo location

Deering Estate

Palmetto Bay · Historic & Waterfront

A 1920s stone house, open lawns, and a wooden dock running out into Biscayne Bay. You get formal architecture, wild coastal hammock and water in a single stop, which makes it one of the best-value locations on this list for a one-hour session.

Light
Mid-morning, or late afternoon on the dock when the bay turns gold. Bring bug spray. I mean it.
Access
A Deering Estate film and photography permit covers the grounds. Portraits are not permitted inside the historic houses, and larger groups may also need a county film permit.
deeringestate.org
MacArthur Causeway: Under the Bridge, a South Florida engagement photo location

MacArthur Causeway: Under the Bridge

Miami · Urban

Raw concrete columns and repeating arches framing the bay and the skyline. It is the most editorial frame in Miami: hard shadow, strong geometry, zero softness. Perfect if your style leans black-tie and a little moody.

Light
Late afternoon, when light bounces off the water and up into the underside of the structure.
Access
Shooting on public property needs a film permit. I confirm whether the exact spot falls under the City of Miami or the county. Some stretches close for safety or construction.
filmiami.org
Rickenbacker Causeway, a South Florida engagement photo location

Rickenbacker Causeway

Virginia Key · Water & Skyline

The classic downtown skyline across open water, with sand in the foreground. City and sea in one frame, which is exactly the shot people picture when they say Miami engagement photos.

Light
Late afternoon into sunset, with the skyline lighting up behind you.
Access
Sessions along the causeway, including Hobie Beach, need a Miami-Dade film permit approved by the Causeways Division. We only shoot from safe, legal pull-offs, never the roadway.
filmiami.org
Perez Art Museum Miami, a South Florida engagement photo location

Pérez Art Museum Miami

Downtown Miami · Urban & Art

Hanging gardens, slatted wood ceilings and bayfront terraces. Clean modern lines, generous shade and water views. It is the architectural counterpoint to everywhere else on this list, and ideal if your taste runs contemporary.

Light
Late morning, when the overhead structure throws graphic shadow across the decks.
Access
Outdoor grounds only, arranged in advance with the museum. No professional photography indoors.
pamm.org
Boca Chita Key, Biscayne National Park, a South Florida engagement photo location

Boca Chita Key, Biscayne National Park

Biscayne National Park · Island

A small island with an ornamental lighthouse, a palm-lined harbor and turquoise water, reachable only by boat. It is the most ambitious session on this list and the one nobody else will have. Worth it if you love the ocean and do not mind planning around the weather.

Light
A morning departure, sea conditions permitting. We build in buffer for the crossing.
Access
Small handheld sessions usually do not need a National Park Service permit, but you will need your own boat or a licensed charter. I confirm current park rules before we lock the date.

The Biltmore Hotel, a South Florida engagement photo location

The Biltmore Hotel

Coral Gables · Historic & Private

A National Historic Landmark with a Mediterranean tower, a vaulted lobby, columned loggias and the famous pool. Old-Hollywood grandeur, and one of the few places where an indoor and outdoor look sit fifty feet apart.

Light
Late morning or early afternoon, working the loggias and colonnades for shade.
Access
Private property. Sessions are reserved directly with the hotel and fees apply.
biltmorehotel.com

The Cruz Building

Coconut Grove · Private & Indoor

Three levels of stained glass, marble staircases, ironwork and antique chandeliers. Dramatic, glamorous and entirely indoors, which makes it my favourite answer to a summer forecast that will not cooperate.

Light
Any time of day. Being indoors, the schedule bends around you instead of the sun.
Access
A private venue. Sessions are booked in advance with the events team.
cruzbuilding.com
Miami Design District, a South Florida engagement photo location

Miami Design District

Miami · Urban & Art

Sculptural facades, public art installations and polished plazas. It reads like a fashion editorial without any styling effort, and the architecture gives you clean backgrounds in every direction, which is rarer than it sounds.

Light
Morning, before the shops open and the plazas fill.
Access
Privately managed, so the district is contacted before a professional shoot. Sidewalks and streets may also need a City of Miami permit.
miamidesigndistrict.net
Gold Coast Railroad Museum, a South Florida engagement photo location

Gold Coast Railroad Museum

Southwest Miami-Dade · Vintage

Restored vintage railcars, brick and open field. Nostalgic in a way nothing else here is: brass, rivets and old paint. A genuinely unexpected choice, and couples who pick it always end up with the most distinctive gallery of the season.

Light
Late morning into early afternoon, within the museum’s standard photo hours.
Access
Reserved with the museum in advance. A deposit is required.
goldcoastrailroadmuseum.org
Prado Entrance, a South Florida engagement photo location

Prado Entrance

Coral Gables · Historic & Garden

One of the grand 1920s gateways into Coral Gables: Mediterranean pillars, urns, a fountain, and a long shaded green running between them. Compact, elegant, and it photographs far bigger than it is.

Light
Early morning or late afternoon, when the pillars cast long shadows down the green.
Access
A City of Coral Gables film and photography permit is required.
coralgables.com

Villa Toscana Miami

Miami · Private Estate

A Tuscan-style estate with gardens, fountains, a mansion and a lagoon on one property. Four or five completely different looks without moving the car, which is why I suggest it to couples booking a single hour who still want variety.

Light
Late morning or mid-afternoon. The grounds hold usable light across a wide window.
Access
A private venue, booked hourly in advance, with a cap on how many extra guests can come along.
vtmiami.com
Wynwood Walls, a South Florida engagement photo location

Wynwood Walls

Wynwood · Urban & Art

Large-scale murals by internationally known street artists, repainted often enough that your photos are genuinely of a moment. Loud, saturated and full of personality. Bring colour in your outfits, or let the walls do all the talking.

Light
Morning, before the crowds arrive and while the walls are still evenly lit.
Access
A private ticketed museum. Professional sessions are cleared with Wynwood Walls in advance. The surrounding streets have murals too, but those may need a City of Miami permit.
thewynwoodwalls.com
Alfred I. duPont Building, a South Florida engagement photo location

Alfred I. duPont Building

Downtown Miami · Historic & Indoor

A 1930s downtown landmark with ornate ceilings, brass detail and Art Deco-era interiors on a scale you rarely get access to. Glamorous, weatherproof, and a different century to everything outside the door.

Light
Any time of day. It is entirely interior, so the forecast is irrelevant.
Access
A private venue, booked directly with the building’s events team.

Tell me which spots caught your eye and I will handle the timing, the light and the paperwork. It takes about two minutes.

Broward County

Quieter than Miami and quicker to permit, with the best beach-plus-street pairing in South Florida. Planning a Fort Lauderdale wedding? Here is my wedding photography.

Bonnet House Museum and Gardens, a South Florida engagement photo location

Bonnet House Museum & Gardens

Fort Lauderdale · Historic & Garden

A colourful historic estate tucked between the beach and the Intracoastal, with a courtyard, tropical gardens and a loose, artistic feel. Full of texture and slightly eccentric, in the best way.

Light
Late morning inside the museum’s photography window, using the garden shade.
Access
Paid photography access during set hours. No props and no outfit changes on site, so plan one look.

Fort Lauderdale Beach and Las Olas, a South Florida engagement photo location

Fort Lauderdale Beach & Las Olas

Fort Lauderdale · Beach & Urban

Two looks, one session. Start on the sand by the wave wall, then walk up to Las Olas for palm-lined sidewalks and boutique storefronts. It is the easiest two-location pairing on this list, with no driving between them.

Light
Beach first thing, then the boulevard. Or run it in reverse and finish on the sand at sunset.
Access
Professional permits for Fort Lauderdale and Broward go through Film Lauderdale. Allow a few business days.
filmlauderdale.org

Tree Tops Park

Davie · Nature & Garden

Live oaks heavy with Spanish moss, a boardwalk through the marsh, and an observation tower. Green and quiet with none of the formality of a botanic garden. The right call if you want nature without feeling staged.

Light
Morning or late afternoon, when sun filters sideways through the oak canopy.
Access
A Broward County park. Professional photography on county property is permitted through Film Lauderdale.
broward.org/parks

Soultuary The Studio

Dania Beach · Studio & Indoor

A bright private natural-light studio with modern furniture and clean backdrops. Stripped back and intimate, with nothing in the frame but the two of you. It is also the rain plan I reach for most often in Broward.

Light
Mid-to-late afternoon, when the big west-facing windows go warm.
Access
A private rental studio. We book a time slot directly.
soultuary.co

Parkland Golf & Country Club

Parkland · Private Club

Manicured fairways, lakes and an elegant clubhouse, for a polished and understated country-club look. Best suited to couples who already have a connection to the club, since access runs through membership.

Light
Early morning or late afternoon across the open fairways.
Access
A private club. Photography needs the club’s permission, usually via a member or a booked event.
parklandgcc.com

Villa Maria Cristina

Miramar · Private Estate

A Mediterranean-style estate with a mansion, courtyard, pool, gazebo and bridge all on one property. Romantic and varied, with a storybook quality that suits couples who want something theatrical.

Light
Late morning or mid-afternoon around the courtyard and gardens.
Access
A private venue booked in advance, typically with a two-hour minimum. Availability here changes, so I confirm the estate is taking bookings before we plan around it.

Palm Beach County

6 locations

The most European-feeling hour of South Florida, and worth the drive. Three of the best gardens in the state are up here. Getting married up here? See my wedding collections, or check whether your date is open.

Worth Avenue, a South Florida engagement photo location

Worth Avenue

Palm Beach · Urban & Historic

Mediterranean storefronts, tiled courtyards, fountains, and the hidden vias: narrow passageways draped in bougainvillea that look lifted straight out of southern Europe. The ocean is a two-minute walk away if you want a second look.

Light
A weekday morning, before the shops open and while the vias are still in soft shade.
Access
Casual photography is common, but professional sessions may need Town of Palm Beach approval, and the vias are private property. I confirm before your date.
worth-avenue.com

Pan’s Garden

Palm Beach · Native Garden

Half an acre of Florida’s first all-native botanical garden, tucked in behind Hibiscus Avenue. Three hundred native species grown the way they actually occur, a bronze Pan playing his pipes above the entrance pool, and a salvaged 1920s tile wall running the western edge. Small, shaded, and completely unlike the manicured gardens up the road.

Light
Morning or late afternoon. The garden is compact and well shaded, so it is the harsh middle hours you want to avoid.
Access
Open daily from 10am to 4pm, no admission charge. Professional sessions are arranged in advance with the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach, and the garden closes occasionally for maintenance and private events.
palmbeachpreservation.org
Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens, a South Florida engagement photo location

Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens

West Palm Beach · Sculpture & Garden

Two acres around the sculptor’s own house and studio, with monumental brick figures standing among more than 250 species of rare palm and cycad. It is on the National Register, and it is the only place on this list where the art and the planting came from the same hand.

Light
Late morning or early afternoon, inside the visiting window. The palm canopy holds most of the grounds in soft shade.
Access
Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, in season. Photography terms are not published, so I arrange your session with the gardens directly before we lock the date.
ansg.org
Mounts Botanical Garden, a South Florida engagement photo location

Mounts Botanical Garden

West Palm Beach · Garden

Palm Beach County’s oldest and largest botanical garden. Fifteen acres of tropical collections, a hedge maze, a gazebo set into flowerbeds, and water gardens. It is big enough to give you four genuinely different looks without repeating yourself, which makes it unusually good value for a single hour.

Light
Morning or late afternoon. The open lawns go bright quickly, so the canopy areas carry the middle of the day.
Access
A paid photo shoot reservation is required, booked in advance, and it covers engagement sessions directly. The fee scales with how many people come along.
mounts.org

Bradley Park

Palm Beach · Public Park & Waterfront

Four and a half acres on the Intracoastal at the foot of the Flagler bridge, rebuilt in 2017 around the restored Artemis fountain and the old tea house. A quarter-mile shell path threads through garden rooms cut into tall hedges, and the gazebo down by the water is the sunset spot. It is the rare Palm Beach location that costs nothing and still looks like it should.

Light
Late afternoon into sunset at the gazebo and the water. The hedged garden rooms hold good shade earlier in the day.
Access
A Town of Palm Beach public park, free to enter. The Town exempts personal sessions of up to one hour, with fifteen people or fewer and handheld gear only, so a one-hour session needs no permit. Go longer, or bring a tripod, and it crosses into the Town’s commercial filming permit. I confirm either way before we plan the date.
townofpalmbeach.com
Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, a South Florida engagement photo location

Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea

Palm Beach · Historic & Garden

Gothic Revival stone, shaded cloisters, a koi pond, and the formal Cluett Memorial Garden, all a block from the ocean. Quiet and genuinely reverent. The most peaceful location on this list.

Light
A weekday late morning or early afternoon. The church’s final photo slot ends mid-afternoon.
Access
An approved application and donation are required. Weekdays only, two hours maximum, grounds rather than the interior. No props, confetti or drones, and never during services.

Add films to your session

Six things that make a session go well

Let the light pick the time

Early morning is cooler and emptier. Late afternoon into golden hour is warmer and more forgiving. Midday in South Florida is the one window I steer you away from.

Reserve permits early

The popular spots book out weeks ahead, especially December through April. Once we pick a location I tell you exactly what to reserve, and you reserve it that week.

Bring two outfits

One dressier, one relaxed. Light, breathable fabrics photograph better and feel better in the humidity. Once you book I send a short style guide to help you choose.

Pack a small kit

Water, blotting papers, bug spray for anywhere near the bay, and shoes you can genuinely walk in between spots. Heels for the photos, sneakers for the walking.

Have a rain plan

Summer storms here pass in twenty minutes. We wait them out or move indoors. The duPont Building, the Cruz Building and Soultuary all work beautifully as a plan B.

Pick the place that is yours

The best location is not the most photogenic one on this page. It is the one that means something to you: where you met, where you got engaged, your regular Sunday walk.

Good to know

Questions about locations

Do not see yours? Start your experience and ask me directly. I answer every message myself, usually within 24 hours.

One, two or three hours, which works out to one, two or three locations. Most couples choose two hours. It is enough that nothing feels rushed and you come away with real variety.

Yes, as long as they are close together. Fort Lauderdale Beach into Las Olas is the easiest pairing on this page, and Vizcaya into Coconut Grove works well too. If two spots are far apart we will use the three-hour session so travel does not eat your time.

Any permit, venue access fee or paid parking is the couple’s responsibility and is paid directly to the location. I tell you exactly what is required, where to apply and how far ahead, so you never have to work it out alone.

Yes. Every couple who books their wedding photography with Widgy Normil Photography gets an engagement session included. It is built into every South Florida wedding collection.

We watch the forecast together and either shift the time, reschedule, or move to one of the indoor locations on this page. South Florida storms usually pass quickly, so a delay is far more common than a cancellation.

Absolutely. This is a starting point, not a menu. If there is a place that matters to you, where you met, where you got engaged, your own backyard, tell me and I will scout the light and handle the access.

$650 per hour, in three tiers: one hour and one location, two hours and two locations, or three hours and three locations. Full details are on the engagement sessions page.

They are accurate as a guide, but parks, venues and film offices change their rules and fees regularly. Treat this page as the shortlist, and I will confirm the current requirements with the location before your date is locked in.

Ready when you are. Let us find your spot

Tell me your date, the feeling you are after, and any locations that caught your eye. I take a limited number of sessions each month so every couple gets the unrushed version of me.

Location photo credits

Location photographs on this page are temporary placeholders licensed from Wikimedia Commons, used to show each setting until my own work from that location replaces them. Every engagement photograph and film on this site is my own. Eight venues show a placeholder card because no openly licensed photo of them exists.
